Michael Coelho began his musical training on viola in the Fall River public school system. He holds a Bachelor of Music Studies from UMass Lowell and is pursuing a Master of Music Education at The Boston Conservatory. Mr. Coelho frequently performs with chamber groups and orchestras throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire. As a soloist, he has been featured with the Granite State Symphony, Fall River Symphony, UMass Lowell Orchestra, and the Southeastern Alumni Symphony Orchestra. As a teacher, Mr. Coelho maintains a private studio and taught in the UMass Lowell String Project and other outreach programs.
Mr. Coelho is the founder and conductor of Concert for Hope, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to promoting disease awareness and support with annual concerts by an all-volunteer ensemble made up of professional and semi-professional musicians from across New England.
A composer and arranger, Mr. Coelho currently serves as the film composer for Sky Mill Music. He won the 2008 MMEA All State Composition Contest first place award for his orchestral piece, The Four Elements, as well as the 2009 and 2010 Michael K. Anderson Scholarship, and the 2012 Michael T. Doucette Scholarship from the New Hampshire Philharmonic.
Mr. Coelho has participated in master classes with Jean Bamberger, the Borromeo String Quartet, and the Harlem String Quartet. His principal teachers include Denise Bovie, Ann Danis, and Elliott Markow.
